A Transformative Journey of Learning and Cultural Immersion to China: SWUFE Summer Camp
The School of Management Tribhuvan University’s MBA students recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the SWUFE Global Academy’s summer camp program in Chengdu, China. This 15-day program, organized by the SWUFE School of Statistics and School of Management Science and Engineering, aimed to provide an authentic cultural experience while offering customized courses in the fields of Statistics and Management Science. The camp not only enriched the students’ knowledge but also allowed them to explore local businesses, witness renowned scenic spots and immerse themselves in professional and cultural activities. Additionally, they had the privilege of encountering China’s beloved giant pandas in their natural habitat. SWUFE, short for Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, is a prestigious university located in Chengdu, China. Renowned for its expertise in finance, economics, and business, SWUFE prioritizes research, academics, alumni, and societal needs. The university has a strong alumni network and offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
On the other hand, Tribhuvan University (TU) is Nepal’s oldest and largest university, responsible for producing a significant portion of the country’s skilled workforce. The School of Management Tribhuvan University (SOMTU) operates as an autonomous institution within TU, delivering high-quality management education since its establishment in 2012.
The summer camp schedule was full with various trips and activities. Students had the opportunity to engage in courses on Python programming, Machine Learning, data visualization, and business analytics, empowering them with cutting-edge skills that are in high demand in today’s technological landscape. The program also included visits to local businesses, such as the Volvo plant, providing valuable insights into China’s business operations and management practices.
Moreover, cultural visits to significant landmarks like the Dufu Thatched Cottage, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and Dujiangyan Scenic Area exposed students to China’s rich cultural heritage. Calligraphy classes and experiencing Sichuan opera art and cuisine added an extra layer of cultural immersion.
As a result of their involvement in the summer camp, the student’s knowledge and skill sets were broadened, which proved to be a life-changing event for them. They enhanced their knowledge of Python programming, Machine Learning, and data visualization, all of which will help them in their future careers. Participating in business simulation competitions improved their business knowledge as well as their teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, children were able to interact with friends from China as well as other nations, which aided in the promotion of mutual understanding and camaraderie across cultural borders. As a consequence of the tour, which emphasized China’s tremendous technological achievements, quality management techniques, and systematic operations, the students were inspired to examine how the principles of quality management and systematic operations in China could be adapted in Nepal.
The SWUFE summer camp provided the MBA students from Tribhuvan University’s School of Management with a transformative journey of learning, cultural immersion, and personal growth. By acquiring valuable skills, understanding Chinese culture, and building global networks, the students were equipped with tools to excel in their academic and professional endeavors. The camp strengthened the relationship between SWUFE and TU, fostering ongoing educational cooperation and opening doors for future collaborations.
