Social Creatinnovation Camp: Empowering Students to Address Social Challenges
School of Management Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and Handong Global University, Republic of Korea collaboratively hosted the “Social Creatinnovation Camp” for the students of MBA General 23rd Batch and MBA GLM 9th batch from 1st April to 30th June 2023. The objective of this camp was to help students identify social problems faced by different communities of Nepal and propose viable sustainable solutions through social enterprise.
The program journey encompassed visits to various communities to identify the major social issue they are facing, conducting a root cause analysis of their problem, and developing a business model around this issue which would solve the identified social problem while also generating income for us, and the program concluded with the 5 days long closed camp where students presented social enterprise model developed by them to Korean Professors, and Nepali Professors from 24th June to 30th June at Tewa, Lalitpur. The program helped students to look at the community problem from multiple perspectives, and seek opportunities even in the challenges.
There were altogether 4 teams from MBA 23rd batch and MBA-IT 8th Batch, 3 teams from MBA GLM (SOMTU), and 2 teams from Handong Global Univerisity with 5 members in each team participating in this camp. The social issues around which MBA General Students developed their social enterprise model were based on the waste management problem in Kirtipur, Low Plantation in the Ason area, discrimination faced by the LGBTQ community of Lazimpat area, and the women violence.
Below are the project name and some descriptions of the project developed by MBA-GLM Students
Group A
Project Name – Bloom Birth
This project is focused on catering to the social problem of expectant mothers’ rising anxiety during the pregnancy period. For this problem, the solution offered by the group is Lamaze classes – which provide prenatal preparation classes involving both partners. The other solution proposed is ‘maternity yoga’.
The project hopes to solve three key problems
1. Low involvement of Spouse in the parenthood journey.
2. Challenges in attaining reliable maternity information
3. Rising Fear and Anxiety among expectant mothers
Group B
Project Name: Glasseco
This group is working on the problem of glass waste. It has provided a solution for repurposing glasses.The solution proposed is – Establishment of glass repurposing facilities in Kathmandu.
• Valley for repurposing glass bottles into mulch which adds
• Value to customers. Thus, minimizing the glass waste issue and
• Increase the living condition of local scrap collectors.
Group C
Project Name – Social Ease Tech
This group is working on the social problem of “Social Anxiety”
• To deal with this issue, the group has proposed the solution – “Provide an effective way to deal with social anxiety through virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET).”
At the end of this camp, students got recognized with a certificate. This kind of impactful program and camps organized by the School of Management Tribhuvan University are contributing to broadening the learning horizons for students.
